The final round of the MXW Australian Motocross Championship took place this weekend at Queensland Moto Park, and it ended with yet another dominant performance from Charli Cannon.
Cannon clinches a new Title
Arriving with a comfortable points lead, Cannon (1-1) secured her fourth MXW national title in the opening moto of the final round, making her the undisputed queen of the 2025 season. The Honda Racing rider didn’t stop there — she also won the second moto, wrapping up the championship with an undefeated season.
After celebrating her fourth consecutive title, Charli now sets her sights on the fourth round of the WMX U.S. Championship, taking place this Friday. She’ll fly straight to the U.S. in an effort to continue her international success.
McCutcheon secures runner-up finish
Behind her, Taylah McCutcheon (3-2) delivered a solid performance to finish second overall on the day and secure the runner-up spot in the championship. It marks the first season she’s completed in full without injury — a promising step forward for the Empire Kawasaki rider.
Taylor Thompson (2-3) pushed hard to try and take second place in the standings, but ultimately settled for third in both the round and the final championship standings. The KTM rider showed consistent progression throughout the year.
Strong performances from Horne and Rimbas
Karaitiana Horne (5-6) matched her best result of the season with a fourth-place finish in the final round. The New Zealand national champion impressed with two strong motos and locked in fourth overall in the championship as well.
Leah Rimbas (4-10) had an excellent opening race but struggled to find her rhythm on Sunday morning, still doing enough to finish fifth overall for the round.
Darci Whalley (9-5) grabbed the holeshot in Moto 1 before making a mistake and suffering a crash mid-race. She rebounded with a much cleaner second moto, finishing sixth on the day.
Crashes, comebacks, and costly mistakes
Mia Tongue (8-7) demonstrated consistency to finish seventh. Making a one-off return to the championship, Maddy Brown (7-8) claimed eighth — a strong showing for a recently retired rider. She edged out Emily Lambert (6-11), who was on pace for a better result until a costly mistake in the second moto.
Rounding out the Top 10, Madison Healey (12-9) incurred a two-position penalty in the first moto but still salvaged a strong finish. Meanwhile, Madi Simpson (DNF-4) had a tough weekend. A DNF in the opening moto on Saturday dropped her from fourth in the standings — a disappointing end to an otherwise solid season for the Yamaha rider.
