The fifth round of the FIM Sand Races World Championship took place this weekend on the iconic sands of Monte Gordo, Portugal, with standout performances in the Women’s category.

Yamaha’s Amandine Verstappen was untouchable across both motos, winning Saturday and Sunday to reclaim the championship lead, despite pain following a collision with another rider. After a costly mechanical failure at the previous round, the reigning world champion bounced back with a flawless weekend, making her the favorite for the 2025 title ahead of the Enduropale du Touquet season finale in France.

Camille Viaud impressed by finishing third and second in the two races, securing second overall for the round. Determined to recover from an engine failure at Hossegor, the Yamaha rider now sits fourth in the championship—just one point from the podium.

Mathilde Denis, who started the weekend leading the series, endured a tough event and finished third overall. She now trails Verstappen by seven points and will need a victory at Le Touquet to reclaim her world title after her 2023 triumph.

Sara Jugla finished a solid fourth and remains third in points, setting up a decisive showdown with Viaud at the legendary Le Touquet beach race.
